Everything You Need to Know About Your Exchange Night
It's easy!
In our ten+ years of business we have made exchanges all around the city - from in front of apartment doors, to mail rooms, and shared hall ways, it's all possible!Your assigned exchange night (Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday) is based on the neighborhood you live in. We'll confirm your day when we send your confirmation email. You'll have the same driver the entire time you're a Diaperkind customer (except the rare week they're on vacation and most of our drivers live in the neighborhoods they service -- some have even worked at Diaperkind since Day 1!
Many people ask why we do our deliveries at night (except in Austin). This is because there is significantly less traffic at night plus many of our drivers have day jobs and do this in the evenings to support more creative endeavors. All of our drivers are employees -- this is not the Uber of cloth diapering!
Now, onto the details!
Be sure to follow this guide to ensure a smooth and uneventful weekly exchange night. While we're buzzing around like busy bees behind the scenes to get everything ready on your exchange night, we rely so much on our (amazing!) customers to understand what's needed of them to keep it all running smoothly.
The Basics
- Have your diapers out no later than 9pm.
- Drivers can arrive anytime between 9pm and 3am, and their arrival time can vary considerably from week to week.
- Drivers are given strict instructions not to knock, buzz, or call if your dirties are not out (read: sleeping babies and sensitive dogs)
- Put out just the dirty diapers (hold onto your cleans and your covers), in only the provided Diaperkind drawstring pail bag.
- Cinch that bag securely closed (no tying, knotting, or wrapping of the bag or drawstring) and place it in the location noted on your bag tag.
The driver, upon arrival at your exchange spot, will collect dirties that have been left out, and drop off your bag of cleans in the same spot.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding Exchange Night
Can I keep the diaper bag in the pail and put the pail out in my exchange spot?
Yes! You can absolutely put your pail out for the swap - we recommend it whenever your exchange spot is in a common area (such as a hallway, vestibule, or doorman station), since it helps keep the area clear of any diaper odor or wetness. Just put the hamper bag (filled with dirty diapers) inside the pail, and be sure to cinch it securely. Please do not tie or knot the bag, and do not wrap the string around the bag. Just cinched in the bin is perfect!
What if I'll be out of town?
If you'll be away on your exchange night, be sure to log on to your account and head over to your My Service Schedule page to modify your schedule. Be sure to make any changes before 10am of your affected service night, otherwise you'll only be able to make changes for the following week.
Unsure of how to modify? Here's a quick rundown of the options:

- After your last exchange night was a Pickup Only. - If you're arriving back home right before your exchange and will have no dirties. - Anytime you need to let us know "we won't have any dirties out" so the driver knows not to mark you as a Missed Pickup (which lets us know not to email you the next morning). |

Help, I missed putting my diapers out and the driver already dropped off!
If you miss the driver’s arrival, they’ll still drop off your cleans but will note you as a Missed Pickup. The following morning, once we're in the office, we'll see the driver's notes and drop you an email letting you know the options available for those dirties. If you're reading this the night of your missed pickup and want to see some of those options, head here.
Please note: After 3pm, neither phones nor email are manned, and the drivers are on auto-pilot while on their routes. Because of this, we can’t make same night “2nd passes”, "go-backs" "re-dos" or "do-overs". BUT, we’ll be back in the office early the next morning and will address any issues right away!
Can I be serviced on a different night this week, just this once?
Due to neighborhoods and scheduling, we're only in your neighborhood on your assigned night and cannot modify your exchange night in any way. If you won't be home for your exchange night, hop on to your My Service Schedule page and set yourself as a Skip for that night. We can also accept in-person dropoffs of dirties via our 24/7 curbside dropbox here at Diaperkind, if you'll be back in town after your exchange night with dirties to be laundered.
