What's the Difference Between the Prefolds and Fitteds? (and Can We Switch?)

Stacks of folded Diaperkind prefold organic cotton diapers, diaperkind unbleached cotton fitted diapers, and cotton cloth wipes

To see an illustration demonstrating how the two are different, head to How Do the Diapers Work?

Otherwise, the basics differences are:

Prefolds

Diaperkind organic prefold cloth diapers, folded and stacked in a pile

  • Prefolds are rectangular in shape and made from organic cotton. Thicker down the middle than on the sides, they are folded to best fit your baby at each changing. Organic Prefold Diaper Service is $42/week.

Fitteds

Diaperkind unbleached cotton fitted cloth diapers, one diaper folded and one diaper open

  • Fitteds are contour-shaped and made from conventional cotton. They have form-fitting elastic sewn in around the legs and at the back, so they fit onto your baby with no folding required. Fitted Diaper Service is $52/week.

Aside from those differences, they are the same in that:

  • Both styles are equally absorbent
  • Both need a Snappi for fastening
  • Both need a diaper cover as their waterproof layer.

If you find that you'd like to switch from one to the other, no problem! Just email us to try a few samples of the other style. And then again if you'd like to make the switch! Except for the usual service fee that week, there's no additional fee for switching from one to the other. Diaper covers and Snappis are equally compatible with both styles.
